Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?

During band's rehearsal break for Sunday's Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday's Movie Awards — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin?

Right? Before we put MTV News' magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a "Twilight" character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their Movie Awards performance.

Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with "Harry Potter," the "Twilight Saga" or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin.

Here's a sampling of a few of those one-liners:

» "The elder wand, the most powerful wand ever made."

» "Why don't you let me be yours ever truly? Can I make your garden grow?"

» "You're lying, Dolores! You mustn't tell lies!"

Can you guess whether the lines above came from the "Potter" flicks, "Twilight" or Robert Plant?

Watch as the Foos try their best to do exactly that. Then tune in to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday to catch the Foo Fighters rock the stage with their new single, "Walk."

Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT that night for the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale and Movie Awards pre-show, loaded with live action from the red carpet, exclusive movie clips and a special edition of "After Hours."

Harry Potter, Severus Snape Soar In Early World Cup Voting

Hermione Granger is also dominating in the first round of the MTV News tournament.

Don't pooh-pooh Filius Flitwick! That's just one of the lessons coming into focus little more than 24 hours into the epic showdown we call the "Harry Potter" World Cup.

Though the diminutive master of Charms nabbed just a 10 seed in our monthlong tournament, in which fans have been voting online to choose the greatest character in the fantasy franchise, Professor Flitwick has raced out to a commanding first-round lead over his fellow Hogwarts colleague, and number-seven seed, Sybill Trelawney. But voting in the initial round doesn't close until midnight on Monday, meaning there's more than enough time for Trelawney fans to divine a whole lot of votes in her honor.

Other contests seem less prone to an upset. Honestly, what are the chances Harry Potter himself, facing off against Dark Arts devotee Quirinus Quirrell, gets an unexpected first-round ouster from the World Cup? As of this writing, the boy wizard has wrangled more than 95 percent of the vote. His pal Hermione Granger, meanwhile, has garnered more than 98 percent of the vote in her battle with often-salacious journalist Rita Skeeter.

See photos of all of the "Potter" World Cup players.

But that was all to be expected. Early voting has also shown us some characters that could become Cinderella stories. Dobby the House Elf, the adorable rascal who made the ultimate sacrifice to save Harry and company, shot out to a maybe-we-should-call-it-now lead over Gryffindor half-blood Dean Thomas. Maybe now it's time for Dobby, who's always been the servant until now, to lead a fan-supported charge. Yet the floppy-eared elf could well run up against Severus Snape, who himself is dominating a first-round matchup with Death Eater spawn Vincent Crabbe, in the Sweet 16.

Snape, as "Potter" buffs know, has one of the most complex and satisfying character arcs in the entire series. Only Dobby, we presume, stands between him and an Elite Eight showdown with Harry. That's the main action in the Privet Drive quadrant of the bracket. Over in Godric's Hollow, while Hermione is busy wiping the floor with Rita, the phoenix Fawkes is straight up embarrassing poor Nearly Headless Nick. But voting in Albus Dumbledore's game hasn't even started. If you ask us, anyone who thinks someone like Dark Arts defender Remus Lupin is going to stand in the way of a Hermione vs. Dumbledore Elite Eight face off is crazy.

See the full bracket and vote!

Things haven't even gotten started on the other side of the bracket. There's a whole lot of Weasley brawling going on in the Hogsmeade section, not only with Ron securing the top seed but with Arthur cruelly conjuring up a war with his son Percy. But all that may become background noise once Cedric Diggory (memorably, if briefly, portrayed onscreen by one Robert Pattinson) gets in on the action. Even Ron Weasley, he who won the heart of Hermione, might not be able to take down the "Twilight" heartthrob. Voting kicks off Wednesday.

And then in Diagon Alley, we find perhaps the tournament's most competitive corner. Count 'em off: Lord Voldemort, Draco Malfoy (whose Tom Felton has collected two straight MTV Movie Award Best Villain wins), Sirius Black and his murderer, Bellatrix Lestrange. About the only thing we can predict at this point is that Lord V is going to freaking destroy Moaning Myrtle, who might need a new nickname soon. Voting in these matches begins on Thursday.

Who is the best "Harry Potter" character of all time? The "Harry Potter" World Cup will find out! Voting is going on now over on the MTV Movies Blog, and you can also get the debate going on Twitter with the hashtag #mtvpottercup.

'Transformers' Stars Joke That Stunts Hurt Their Guy Parts

'I don't like the wires,' Shia LaBeouf says, breaking down the dangers of wearing a harness.
By Kara Warner

If there's one thing audiences can count on going into a Michael Bay-directed "Transformers" movie, it's that there will be action, action and ... more action. With each new installment, Bay has upped the ante, delivering crazier robot fights and more death-defying stunt work. And while those stunt sequences are fascinating to watch, they come with a certain amount of strain and stress for the actors who perform them.

Speaking specifically of the wire work required of his cast during filming of the third installment, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Bay has previously joked that star Shia LaBeouf was a "grump" about working in harnesses. So we asked LaBeouf to address that point during a recent sit-down. His detailed explanation was both highly technical and hilarious.

"Yeah, I don't like the wires," LaBeouf admitted to MTV News. "Really, you can ask any man, like if I were to ask you, sir," Labeouf said, gesturing to the gentleman manning the camera in the background. "Would you like me to take my shoelace off, tie it around your nuts and then hang it from a chandelier on the ceiling?" he deadpanned. "And then while you're up there hanging from your testicles, I need you to scream, 'Optimus!' which makes the testicle condense inside of the shoelace vise. Would you enjoy that, sir?" LaBeouf said with a smile.

New leading lady Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also weighed in on the subject, insisting that harnesses aren't a picnic for the ladies either.

"I don't think I was originally supposed to go up in the harness," Whiteley said of her fateful day suspended in the air. "I was on set watching my stunt double do her thing; she was sliding down this 100-foot [mobile set] that was at a 40-degree angle on what was basically a skateboard, headfirst. All of the sudden Michael [Bay] says, 'OK, get Rosie in the harness!' They thrust this man's harness at me," she recalled. "Which is placed to be in all the wrong places for a woman's body and is excruciatingly painful for three hours," she added. "All the things cut into the wrong places, put pressure on the wrong bits. Whatever it does to a man, it also does to a woman."

LaBeouf and Whiteley's co-star Tyrese Gibson, however, said there's one surefire way to make wire work less painful: butt meat.

"Thank God I have a bigger ass so when you put the harness on, the ass is able to help you stay away from the front part," he explained. "It kind of balances things out a little bit. When your ass is flat and you have to have it going over the front, it is a bad day in America," Gibson said. "It's really nothing any of us can do about that. We can, say, do lunges, get on the StairMaster that week, but it's not going to give you that real butt meat that you need to help you to get through the situation," he said. "So thank you, Mom, for passing on the booty meat to help me get through this."

Glee?s Cory Monteith Talks Drug and Alcohol Past

Finn Hudson has pretty much lived on the straight and narrow, and personally I enjoy the naivete that is Finn. It was quite the opposite for Cory Monteith, the 29-year-old (wow, I didn’t realize he was 29!) Glee star who portrays the high school quarterback, who had some troubling teenage years that involved drugs and alcohol. We’ve got the deets here! In a very revealing interview with Parade Magazine that comes out this weekend in your paper, Monteith exclusively spoke to the mag about how at the young age of 13, he was already getting drunk, smoking pot and ditching school. Monteith, who hails from British Columbia, admitted that by the time he was 16 years old he said, “I was out of control.” His drug use, which started out with pot, quickly moved on to ‘anything and everything’. He had his first rehab stint at the age of 19, after an intervention was orchestrated by his family. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before he start using again. What made him finally stop abusing substances? He had stolen a large sum of moolah from a member of his family, got caught and was told he had to get clean or they [...]
