Maxim Party Invite "For Beautiful Female Guests Only"

Maxim Hot 100 party

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised when Maxim does something totally looks-ist and gross. Apparently, the magazine sent out a pretty horrifying invite to their Hot 100 party that is going down in Los Angeles next week. The party is to celebrate the 100 women who they've dubbed the hottest in the world—#1 this year is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley—but they apparently want to make sure that the room doesn't have any fugly ladies in it. According to The New York Post, their invitation read, "The invite is for beautiful female guests only, 21 or older. E-mail RSVP with a recent photo. Confirmation required." The audacity of inviting someone to a shindig and then setting them up to be judged on their appearance ... well ... it makes me pretty mad. A Maxim rep says that this wasn't an official invite, and was sent out by an outside promoter, and we'll hope that's the case. But if it's true, I can't wait for the day when men have to submit photos and have their looks judged just to be put on the list for a lame party. Maybe there should be an IQ test, too.

Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Suit Vs. AEG Can Proceed, Judge Rules

Katherine Jackson and family are pursuing a claim against concert promoter.
By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson

When he was alive, Michael Jackson was forever embroiled in a series of complex and expensive-sounding lawsuits. But even in death, the late King of Pop is the subject of major legal action. None could potentially be bigger than the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the pop icon's mother, Katherine Jackson, against concert promotion giant AEG Live.

Reuters reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled on Wednesday that the civil lawsuit can go forward. It will proceed in parallel with the criminal case against Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death from an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol. Murray is the only person charged in Jackson's death and he is currently awaiting trial in that matter.

Katherine Jackson's lawsuit — filed in September on behalf of her and Jackson's three young children — accuses AEG of being responsible for the medical decisions made by Murray, whose salary was paid by the touring company behind Jackson's attempted "This Is It" comeback shows in London. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied a motion on Wednesday by AEG to dismiss Katherine Jackson's suit, but warned Jackson's attorneys that they would need to show evidence of "fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy" in order to win the case.

The judge has already said she doubts they can prove the latter charge, because the suit does not detail any agreement between Murray and AEG to break the law in providing medical care to Jackson.

"If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don't see that as a wrongful or illegal act," the judge said. A lawyer for AEG told the judge that the company could not have predicted beforehand that Murray's medical decisions would result in Jackson's death. Court papers also show that AEG "did not choose to hire Murray" and had only participated in negotiations to bring him on as an independent contractor. Michael, who had previously been treated by Murray in Las Vegas, was reportedly the one who suggested the cardiologist serve as his personal, on-call physician during the "This Is It" rehearsals and shows.

Katherine Jackson's attorney recently dropped choreographer Kenny Ortega from the lawsuit based on new information they received about his actions. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22, just six days before Murray is due back in court for his trial. Jackson's father, Joseph, has twice attempted to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, though his is focused on Murray and the Las Vegas pharmacy that supplied the propofol, not AEG Live.

Tupac Shakur's Only Screenplay To Be Made Into Film

'Live 2 Tell' is story of teenage drug dealer struggling to leave life of crime.

During his short life, rapper Tupac Shakur was a notorious double threat, producing platinum albums and singles and earning notices for his acting in films such as "Juice" and "Poetic Justice."

But the thug life MC, who studied acting, poetry, jazz and ballet while performing in Shakespearean plays at the Baltimore School for the Arts as a teenager, not only acted in plays and movies, he also apparently wrote them.

And now the rights to the only full screenplay Shakur wrote while he was in jail, "Live 2 Tell," have been acquired by a production company that plans to start filming the movie next year, according to Variety.

One of the producers is Preston Holmes, who collaborated with Shakur's mother, Afeni, on the 2003 documentary "Tupac: Resurrection"; Afeni Shakur will be an executive producer on the $11 million project.

The script is described as the story of a teenage drug dealer and his struggles to leave a life of crime. It was written by Shakur while he served an 11-month sentence on sexual assault charges.

"This kid was a genius, and the net of it is, he was from this community, he knew the struggles these young people were dealing with," said Ivan Juzang, whose NStar Studios was behind the acquisition of the screenplay. "And he's able to talk to young people in 2011, 2012, the same way he was able to talk to young people in 1995." Holmes had originally contacted Shakur about the script when the rapper was still behind bars.

"We think that the name we need is the name we have, which is Tupac Shakur," Holmes said.

This is the second attempt at making the film. The script was first optioned more than five years ago by the Insomnia Media Group and was slated to start production in March 2006. No casting for that version was ever confirmed.
