Spencer Pratt: "I'm Trying to Change My Image"

Spencer Pratt: "I'm Trying to Change My Image"

Spencer Pratt is trying to turn over a new leaf -- and he wants Ryan Seacrest to help him do it.

The former Hills villain wrote an email to the media mogul's talent agent Amy Sugarman, asking for an opportunity to work with Seacrest.

"I'm trying to change my image and make myself more likable," he told her.

Pratt called into Seacrest's radio show Thursday and tried to explain why he's asking the Idol host for help.

"How do you go from being hated to even a little bit likable? It's about who you're around," Pratt, 27, said. "I've learned you need to be around likable people to even start to be likable. Who's the most likable person in America, if not the world? That would be Ryan Seacrest."

Pratt says that he's been living a very low-key life in the last few months and has had plenty of time to think about his past actions.

"I got a nice nine-month vacation living on the beach collecting sand dollars, and I really got to reflect and realize that in entertainment, you can definitely go too far," said Pratt, who was once a tabloid regular due to this over-the-top behavior. "I'm ready to start a whole new (chapter)."

Perhaps this epiphany came when his wife, Heidi Montag, 24, began shooting a new reality show for VH1. Montag is currently working with The Bachelor's Jake Pavelka and The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Danielle Staub on the new project.

"She's up every morning at like 4:30," Pratt told Seacrest. "She starts her day with jump-roping while I'm still asleep, and then she heads off to film this new series for VH1 and she doesn't get back until at least 10 p.m. I'm twiddling my thumbs all day like, 'I need to get a job.'"

So is Pratt really looking to change his villainous behavior -- or is he just plain bored without Heidi around to entertain him at home?

Some of pop music's biggest artists, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, are lending their tunes for a good cause. On Monday (March 21), it was announced that Universal Music is rushing out a digital-only compilation album to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.

While the lineup and track list have yet to be finalized, other chart-toppers expected to be featured on the release include U2 and Bon Jovi. Lady Gaga may also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

"We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week," a spokesperson for Universal Music said.

In order to maximize proceeds, the record label plans to find more acts willing to waive royalties that would have come from having their tracks appear on the compilation.

Universal Music is not the only music-industry player reaching to support Japan disaster relief. Most recently, the Black Eyed Peas announced that the music video for their tune "Just Can't Get Enough" would be used to promote awareness and funds for victims of the tragic event. The clip, which was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, finds the BEP bandmates traveling throughout Toyko.

Earlier this month, Lady Gaga designed a special prayer bracelet with all proceeds going to relief efforts. In just two days, the pop singer and her legion of little monsters raised more than $250,000.

For more information on what you can do to help with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan head to MTV Act, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

MAGAZINE FAB: Mariah Carey Opens Up About Being Pregnant And Her "Babymoon"

We told you earlier about MiMi's Life & Style shoot, now we have another pic and a snippet of the article inside....

Mariah Carey recently opened up to Life & Style about her"Babymoon" and how she is enjoying her pregnancy.  And we can all agree she is glowing.

While the cover of Life & Style hit the net last wek, another pic of Mimi baring all her baby belly is out.  Plus, a snippet of her article about the decadant babymoon (pre-labor) vacay she took to pamper herself before she gives birth.  Life & Style reports"

In her last weeks of pregnancy, Mariah Carey reveals to Life & Style that she took a babymoon for a few days of luxurious rest and relaxation before her twins’ arrival! “A friend told me that before she had her son, she took a babymoon, which is something I’d never heard of before,” Mariah tells Life & Style. “Basically, it's an excuse to do something decadent before the babies arrive!”

And after being in her LA home exclusively for the past five months, the pregnant star needed time away! “I'm pretty sure most moms-to-be out there understand what I mean when I say that after a while of being pregnant, you start climbing the walls and just want to get out of the house,” Mariah says. “So I went to an amazing spa on the ocean with a couple of friends and, of course, Cha Cha and the puppies.”

During the retreat, she indulged in everything a mom-to-be would need, from spa treatments to decadent food and fun! “Since at this point I have to really take it easy, we played board games like Taboo and Catch Phrase, ordered spa food and got as many spa treatments as possible!” Her favorite? A foot massage! “They had a method of getting the circulation going in my feet,” Mariah says, “which slightly diminished the Sasquatch moment we’re dealing with right now. Lol!”

Mariah Carey—posing in the new issue of Life & Style—is happy to have been able to capture her final days of pregnancy. “I am so glad we took these pictures as a keepsake and a reminder of this time in my life,” she tells Life & Style. “Right now I'm counting down the days till we meet the babies.”

But when Mariah posed for these belly-baring photos (above) it “wasn't your typical high-glam shoot,” Mariah Carey’s hairstylist, Randi Petersen, tells Life & Style. “Mariah was able to stand up only for intervals of about 2 to 4 minutes per shot, when normally she'd be on her feet all night. I know she wanted to document this for her babies and fans, but they should know it wasn’t easy.”

Loves all this.  We're waiting on "dem babies" Mimi!

Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says

'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.

Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.

"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."

Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.

"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."

Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.

"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."

Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.

"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."

The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.

"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."
