NEW YORK — "Tonight, in the town where the gays birthed me, you can be free!" Lady Gaga announced at her Monster Ball show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
On this second night in her hometown, Lady Gaga was being filmed by HBO for her concert special that will air in early May. And though it wasn't her first time playing MSG, she still felt the significance of headlining the venue. "I used to live 20 blocks from here, so I saw all those names go up on the marquis, and I always wanted to see my name up in those lights.
"You made me brave, little monsters," she informed her squealing fans of all ages, "and New York made me brave."
Liza Minnelli and Marisa Tomei were both in the audience, and Gaga asked for her monsters to cheer on the two women, who she said greatly influenced her.
"I don't lip-synch," Gaga reminded the audience, who was already quite aware of that impressive fact, considering all of the heavy dancing mixed with extended high notes. "I'm not going to waste your time watching some bitch lip-synch her way to an HBO special, especially not with Liza watching." Gaga recently said in an interview that she would want Marisa Tomei, above anyone else, to play her in a movie.
While performing all of her hits from The Fame and The Fame Monster, Gaga took plenty of time to speak to the crowd directly, and her witty banter had the room laughing every moment they weren't cheering their lungs out.
Someone in the audience held up a bright purple unicorn stuffed animal, and Gaga caught sight of it when flashing her disco stick flashlight around the crowd. "That is the most fabulous gay unicorn I have ever seen," she remarked, as straight-faced as ever. "The only thing better than a unicorn is a gay unicorn."
The evening flowed seamlessly from the moment Gaga took the stage with her dark pop tune "Dance in the Dark," disguising her dozen or so costume changes with dazzling art videos. The videos often depicted Gaga in a pose or in extreme slow motion, creating the sense of a moving portrait, surrounded by driving club dance beats. Some of the images included tears of blood, neon-green vomit, gothic clothing and bondage attire. The show itself could be an installment at a high-end gallery.
Gaga's incessant devotion to LGBT rights was in full effect during her two hours on stage. She called a fan in the audience, Jimmy DiPasquale, who had made a generous donation to her LGBT youth fund, to thank him personally. At the end of "Alejandro," while the beat continued to thump, two of her male backup dancers took the stage and made out passionately as the curtain came down.
As Gaga drove the night toward her two encores of "Bad Romance" and new single "Born This Way," she looked on the verge of tears and announced, "This is the last of five sold-out shows here, but I hope this song and this record bring us back here next year."

While many Beliebers are gushing over his 'sexy,' 'older' cut, others tell MTV News they miss his signature 'swoop.'

This week Justin Bieber made headlines thanks to a new haircut. The Biebs had his famous swooping bangs cut into a shorter, cropped look, and he told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres he doesn't "really care" what people have to say about his 'do.
But his fans have been weighing in on the new hairstyle anyway, and many of them approve of the haircut.
"I really like it and it actually makes him look older!!!! And for all u down there hating on Bieber well if it was Angelina Jolie I'm sure you'd have something to say so don't hate 'cause he's sexy and he ain't even legal yet," Amanda wrote on MTV.com.
Lilia added, "AAh, he looks better with the new hair! Suits him!"
Beliebers have been debating the star's latest look since he debuted it earlier this week. Coote noted on our site that Bieber is much more than a head of hair. "I think he [looks] sexy ... i don't love him for his hair... i love him because he is sweet, cute and perfect," Coote wrote.
MTV News also took to the streets of New York City to see whether people preferred the "Never Say Never" star's old look or the new one.
"I like it, I think it looks good on him," Catherine said of Bieber's longtime haircut. She added about the brand-new cut: "I like it better than the other one, but I think that a lot of his fans liked the [old] one. ... Everyone loves him for his hair and now he doesn't have it anymore."
Meanwhile, Tiffany loved the original but was blown away by the new version. "I think it's very Bieberish, I like that long swoop. It definitely works for him," Tiffany said before we showed her the updated look. "Oh my god! It's such a transformation! I just love it! He looks so much older!"
"It's just beautiful," Christina explained of the old 'do. "I liked him with his longer hair better. That's just who he was discovered as."
"He looks a little geeky," Sofia said of his famous original hairdo. "It's much better," she said of the cropped cut. "He doesn't look like my brother anymore. He looks five years older. He's so cute."
Which do you prefer: Bieber's long locks or his cropped cut? Tell us in the comments!

From the monkey on Bradley Cooper's back to Ed Helms' tribal face tattoo, we can't wait to hit this destination wedding.

Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zack Galifianakis in "The Hangover Part II"
Photo: Warner Bros.
Todd Phillips promised and he delivered. Last week, the writer/director — who these days can't seem to make an R-rated comedy that doesn't do mega-business across the globe — assured MTV News that the teaser trailer for "Hangover Part II" would be popping up online this week.
And pop up it has. True to Phillips' words the footage is "truly a teaser," with almost no dialogue and little hint about the events surrounding what clearly turns an innocent destination wedding in Thailand into a life-altering disaster. We do, however, contest Phillips' speculation that the teaser "might end up frustrating more than solving questions." While questions are hardly solved, we couldn't be more pumped finally to feast our eyes on official footage from the Memorial Day weekend release. Here are our picks for the five coolest moments:
Hotel or Prison?
In "The Hangover," Bradley Cooper and his pals find their way into one of the chicest suites in Las Vegas. Their digs in Thailand, alas, look more like the confines of a prison — less "King and I" than "Brokedown Palace." There's no way that this was their original resort locale. It's anybody's guess how and why they end up in this dump.
Say Goodbye to That Security Deposit
This image is a direct homage to the post-party scene in "Hangover": After swilling what turned out to be roofie-infused booze, the friends awoke in their trashed Vegas suite, each one nursing a nuclear headache as a tiger roamed freely in the bathroom. This time around, the morning after takes place in a decidedly less glamorous environment and the big cat is replaced by an oversize cockroach.
The Wolf Pack is Back
In the original film, Zach Galifianakis proudly — and nonsensically — welcomed the crew into his wolf pack. Disaster ensued. This shot shows the gang back together again. Missing, interestingly, is Justin Bartha, who went missing in the first flick and whose absence in the new trailer seems to lend credence to the rumor that he'll once again disappear in "Part II."
Is This Kind of Nice?
The trailer's first piece of dialogue belongs to Galifianakis and it's, predictably, hilariously detached from what is clearly a seriously bad situation. Why else is a monkey wrapped around Cooper's neck? Why does Galifianakis look like a blind man shaved his noggin? And about Ed Helms' face ...
Mike Tyson, Trendsetter
Iron Mike's cameo in "Hangover" was one of the comedy's finest pleasures. And as we've seen from "Part II" photos, Helms somehow finds himself branded with Tyson's most infamous identifier: a tribal face tattoo. For a guy about to get married, that's just not a good look. As he says before hanging his head, "Oh god!"

Aww damn homie. Musiq Soulchild tore it down...and fell down...at Madison Square Garden in NYC last night for his concert with Kem.
And all his hopping around the stage led to him hopping right off the stage and into a speaker. Watch Musiq take a tumble...and try not to laugh...when you read on...
See...this is a prime example of why everybody can't get extra crunk on stage. Gotta be strategic and careful about your crunkness.
Musiq tumbled off the stage while starting his track "Anything" at his concert where he had the crowd joining in on the "Ooooo-oooh's". And it quickly turned into an "Oooo-oh sh*t!".
And y'all know dude is 4' nothing so he couldn't even quickly push his self back up on the stage--had to wait for help to arrive.
*literally biting my tongue until it bleeds so I don't ask the obvious about that wondering eye having anything to do with it*
Musiq was a good sport and continued on with his set. His tweets post-concert:

Gotta love him. By the way, he and Swizzy shot the video for their track "Anything" a couple weeks ago. So it should be dropping any day now.
